Hi! I am Jo the creator of the brays’n badger. The brays’n badger is a hobby glass studio which hopefully will become the focus of my working life in the future. I have 3 daughters (one of which loves badgers incase you wondered), ponies, sheep, goats, cats, dogs, chickens, ducks, rabbits, gerbils… and we all live together in Essex, UK.
I’ve always been creative and inspired by great colours and dare I say, happy youthful and in some cases child-like art. Bright colours inspire me and excite me, when out and about bright colours draw me, lift my mood and that is how I remember places.
Animals have always been a big part of my life, for relaxation but also a source of worry and anxiety at times! Animals are often the inspiration for my art, I love them to look happy, I almost always can’t resist adding cheeky face to them on my glass. As mentioned we have a good few pets and a badger sett!! Our home is our happy space for our family, including pets and as much wildlife which is welcome to join us.
Why glass? The fragility, the potential, the ability to create, sound familiar? I feel I can relate a lot to glass! Taking care of your mindset is so important. When I create I feel so happy. I like the risk involved with creating a new piece, the excitement of opening the kiln in the morning, the joy of a fantastic new piece which will hopefully bring someone happiness in their home, or the disappointment at a piece not going quite as you wished but the realisation of the lesson learned going forward to create more art work. I love the textures that can be created, I look at the world differently now as to how I can develop my style of creating new scenes, the flat sky, the horizontal sea, the vertical grass, the hairy, scruffy dog! I am excited by the endless possibilities and the personal growth I can achieve with this medium.
Plans for the future? I would just love to continue to create! We have a Facebook page and new YouTube channel, take a look and share or subscribe if you can. I am also looking to start making keepsakes containing pets ashes to treasure if you have sadly lost your pet, more about this soon. Also for any local people would like to look at doing some classes once the studio is decorated maybe Christmas workshops or basic projects, again look out for this in the future. If you are local and interested in products for your shop let us know we have just started to sell in a local gift shop see the Facebook page for more details. I am also hoping to set up some gift boxes in collaboration with local creators of ethically produced luxury products, hopefully coming to the shop soon.
I hope you like my shop 🦡 from the brays’n badger.
